The Koran is considered Allah's message to Muslims and therefore holy. Because of this, the Koran is usually set on a high shelf. Because it may never touch the ground, the Koran is usually placed on a stand to be read.

A Muslim is called to prayer five times a day. The calling is done by the muezzin of the mosque. In the past, the muezzin would climb to the top of the mosque and yell, "Hasten to Prayer!" in all directions. Now, however, Muslim mosques usually have a speaker or do not require the muezzin to climb to the top of the mosque.
