Islamic Symbols Continued: Workshop 8I
An artist's depiction of the ancient city of Constantinople
Legend holds that after Turkey conquered Constantinople, a Turkish ruler had a vision about the crescent moon while he was sleeping. He took the crescent moon as his symbol. Supposedly, the five points on the crescent moon star represent the Five Pillars of Islam.
Ancient Constantinople
Some Muslims choose not to use the Crescent Moon as Islam’s symbol because Muslim history does not specifically adopt it as the symbol for Islam. However, other Muslims can argue that they have no other symbol. The Crescent Moon has been universally recognized as the symbol of Islam.
