During a
period of time in his life, Muhammad went to caves, high on
mountains, contemplating the meaning of life through
meditation.

In 610
AD, during Ramadan, Gabriel appeared before him and commanded him
to read saying, “Read in the name of your Lord Who created,
created man from embryo. Read, for your Lord is most beneficent,
who taught man what he did not know!”

In the
next few years, Muhammad preached for submission to Allah and
against idolatry. The people still worshipped at the Kabaa,
but they saw it in a new light- with idols that were against
Muhammad's teachings.

| As the people began
to get more and more aggressive, the need to remove the idols
became less and less a thought and more and more a plan. Certain
leaders in Mecca began to see Muhammad and his followers as a
threat and Muhammad and his faithful followers began to be
persecuted. |
