Symbols represent a
major part of an activity, or belief. Religions use them to
represent deities and other parts of their religion. Other
important everyday activities that use symbols are sports,
countries, states, political groups, clubs, and schools.
The Hindu people use symbols to
represent gods and other aspects of thier life and religion. They
use four main symbols, The Bindi, the
Swatika, the Lotus, and the Aum.

One of the most
prominent Hindu symbols is the Bindi. A small colored
dot, about the size of a person's thumbnail, the Bindi is
traditionally worn by Hindu women. It is said to protect the women
from harm.

Another primary symbol
is the swastika, the same
symbol that the Nazis used during World War II. Many Indians
consider the swastika holy. It is a symbol of both the sun god
Surya, and Ganesh, the elephant- headed god who is
also known as "the Remover of Obstacles." It is also a symbol of
good luck , prosperity, peace and love. Recently Hindu people have
been trying to rid the symbol of all of the foul meanings that it
had when Adolf Hitler's Nazis controlled it.

Yet another symbol is
the Lotus-Flower. It is a symbol for a
person seeking release from Samsara. In any
picture of a Hindu god, the god is in some way associated with the
lotus flower.

The final symbol, and
the most important, is
the Aum(OM). It symbolizes infinite Brahman in its name,
