World Religions Glossary: Part II

Good Friday- The Friday before Easter Sunday, when Christ was crucified.
Heaven- The paradise which Christians go when they leave their earthly body and go spend eternity with God.

Hijab- A scarf or loose fitting garment worn by women

Holy Trinity- In Christianity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Kabaa- A religious shrine in cube- like form composed of granite and draped with fine cloth.

Koran- The religious book of Islam. It includes prayers and directions for all Muslims.

Lama- A Tibetan or Mongolian priest

Lent- the forty day period before Easter.

Lotus Flower-a symbol for a person seeking release from Samsara in Hinduism

Mohenjo Daro- The capital of the original Hindu civilization.

Monks- Men who give up everything they have and dedicate their lives to the studying of their religion.

Monotheistic- A person believes there is only one God.

Nuns- women who give up everything they have and dedicate their lives to studying their religon.
Palm Sunday- the Sunday before Easter Sunday.

Pantheistic- A person believes that the god and universe are one.

Patriarchs- the leaders of the Roman Church.

Pentecost- the seventh Sunday after Easter Sunday. It is known as the Feast of Weeks.

Pilgrimage- When a person travels to somewhere for a religious purpose.

Polytheistic- A person believes in one or more Gods.

Quiblah- The direction of the daily prayers (Mecca).
