World Religions Glossary

Now that you have visited the several different workshops, on the different religions viewed here, you might be confused about some of the terminology used. At first, it is a great deal to grasp, but after visiting the glossary, what was explained becomes much easier to understand.
Advent- The time before Christmas.

Agnostic- One who is unsure about the existence of the gods.

al Amin- The truthful.

Allah- The god most Muslims worship. Allah is Arabic for God.

Alms- Money or food or some sort of charity given to the poor.

al Sodiq- The trustworthy.

Atheistic- One who denies the existence of gods.

Aum- Hindu and Buddhist symbol for the multiple triads.

Bible- The Christian scripture.

Bindi- A small ornamental dot worn on the foreheads of Hindu women.

Brahman- Holy power that sustains the universe.

Christmas- In Christianity, the birth of Christ.
Easter- The time when Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ.

Edict of Milan- The law that the Roman emperor put into action, persecuting all Christians.

Enlightenment- A blessed state in which one surpasses desire and suffering.

Epiphany- The twelve days of Christmas.

Fire- In Hinduism, symbolizes the renewal of ones devotion and of reaching out to the gods.

Five Pillars of Islam- Believing Allah is the only god and Muhammad is the prophet of Allah; completing the daily prayers; Give alms to the needy; To fast during the month of Ramadan; and to make a pilgrimage to Mecca once or more in a lifetime
