Christianity Branches: Workshop 4C
In the year 313 A.D, the Roman emperor Constantine made a law that was called the Edict of Milan. This new law put an end to all Christian persecution in the entire Roman Empire. In time, Christianity became the main religion of the empire. It spread throughout all Europe and eventually became the largest religion in the world.
The Great Divide

The main leaders of the Christian church were called patriarchs. The patriarch of Rome and the patriarch of Constantinople believed differently about the way that the Church should be run and the ways people should worship. After many arguments, the Christian church split into two factions. The Christians in Rome established the Roman Catholic Church. The patriarch of Rome earned a new name, the Pope. All of the Roman Catholic services were presented in Latin.

The churches of Constantinople developed into another branch of the Christian church. It became the Eastern Orthodox Church. All of the Eastern Orthodox services were presented in Greek.
