Buddhist Symbols Continued: Workshop 10B

The parasol is a symbol of royalty and protection. It is a symbol of protection because a parasol is an umbrella that shades one from the sun. The handle of the parasol is said to hold the world. The parasol can also signify status. If one is of high rank, one could carry a silk parasol. If one is of an even higher rank, one could carry a peacock-feather parasol.

The Buddhist wheel
The wheel represents Buddha’s teachings. It is divided into three parts: the rim, spokes, and hub. The spokes represent perfect wisdom, the hub stands for regulation, and the rim represents meditation.
