Buddhist Places of Worship: Workshop 8B

The two types of buildings that are used by Buddhists for worship are monasteries and temples. No matter what kind of building it is, all Buddhist places of worship have a room known as the shrine room. Even though the Buddha is no longer alive, worshippers still keep up shrine rooms to make offerings and pay respects to the Buddha.

Monasteries serve as worshiping places and as living quarters for monks and nuns who wish to separate themselves from the community. Monasteries can be found in nearly every village or town in countries of the Buddhist religion.
Temples can also be homes to monks and nuns. There are many types of temples that have been built in the past, but the two types that are most commonly found are stupas and pagodas. Stupas are usually semi-large hills of stone built over the relics of the Buddha. On the other hand, pagodas are beautiful domed buildings
