Buddhist People: Workshop 9B
A Buddhist person goes through all regular stages of life. These include birth, childhood, adulthood, and death. However, unlike Christians or Muslims, Buddhist people do not focus on the afterlife. Instead, they focus on gaining enlightenment, or passing desire and suffering.
Buddhist people
After a Buddhist girl or boy has reached adulthood, they may become a monk or nun if they wish. The monastery takes a vow of poverty and they take bowls out every afternoon and beg for a meal. They only have a few, very simple possessions. They have many responsibilities that include maintaining the Buddhist temple and studying. Buddhist monks
A Buddhist funeral is usually very simple. When one dies, monks arrive and pray over the body for about three days. After this, the body may be cremated, (burned to ashes.) The Buddha himself was cremated. However, another practice that may occur is a Buddhist sky burial. A sky burial is when a body or bodies are cut and the flesh is given to the birds as a sign of generosity.
