Paris of Troy |
Paris was the youngest son of Priam. When Paris was born,a soothsayer said that he would cause the fall of Troy. Priam sent Paris to Mount Ida to train him to become a shepherd. One day while Paris was farming, Zeus came down to him. Zeus asked Paris to become a judge for him. He was to give an apple to a goddess as a reward for the best gift. If Paris picked the wrong goddess to whom to give the apple, Paris might be killed. It was a hard decision for Paris, but he chose Aphrodite’s offer of a gift. She had offered Paris two things - his body and the love of Helen.

On a visit to Greece supposedly as friends, Hector and Paris managed to get into Menelaus’ palace. They searched the palace and stole many treasures, including Helen. Paris had fallen in love with Helen and wanted her to come with him to Troy. |

| During the war, Paris fought in many battles. When the Greeks attacked Troy with the Trojan Horse, Paris stepped up to fight. Paris searched for Achilles, the murderer of his brother, in order to avenge Hector. When Paris found Achilles, he shot an arrow which hit Achilles in the foot and killed him. This was the only place on Achilles' body that had not been protected by a goddess' spell. Today that tendon is called the "Achilles tendon." Paris was killed later in the war. |
