It is not certain what caused the decline of Mohen-jo-Daro.
The most popular theories suggest agricultural problems between the years of 1800-1700 BC. There could have been a shift in the Indus River, flooding of the Indus River, or a decline in rainfall. When the agriculture declined, the people abandoned the city in search of food.

Another theory says that another people, probably the Aryans, migrated into the region and took control of Mohen-jo-Daro by force. They entered the city, killed the inhabitants, and burned the city.

However, some theories say that the decline of Mohen-jo-daro began before the Aryans came. If there were agriculture problems, the Aryans could have entered the city as a nomadic people, and, with the few inhabitants, it would have been easy to gain control of the area.
