Hasdrubal Barca, born in 245 BC, was the second son of Hamilcar Barca and the younger brother of Hannibal Barca. Eleven years after Hannibal crossed the Alps with his men and elephants, Hasdrubal attempted the same thing. Unfortunately he met a stronger Roman army than his brother faced. |

Hasdrubal was defeated and never reached Hannibal. He was beheaded by the Romans who then tossed Hasdrubal’s head into Hannibal’s camp as a sign of their victory. |

| Not only was Hasdrubal's death a personal tragedy for Hannibal, his death also cost Hannibal the aid he desperately needed to defeat the Romans. |
