Born in 247 BC, Hannibal was the first son of Hamlicar Barca. When he was nine years old, his father made him swear an oath of hatred towards Rome. He accompanied his father to Spain where he served in the army. After his father's and brother-in-law's death, he was chosen by the soldiers to be their leader. Hannibal became even more famous than his father. Hannibal attempted a risky strategy to invade Rome by taking his troops and elephants across the Pyreness and Alps in fourteen days. He lost many elephants and 15,000 men. |
