Tyrone Bogues

Tyrone was born in Baltimore on January 9, 1965. Bogues played for Dunbar High, he played with 2 future NBA players. Bogues went on to play in college for four years at Wake Forest. His playing was remarkable and this led to being drafted in the first round of the 1987 draft. What was most remarkable about Tyrone Bogues was that he averaged 3.4 rebounds a game in his college year at Wake Forest. Seeing as Bogues was just 5’3. Most thirteen or fourteen year olds are 5’3”. Try picturing an 8th Grade boy playing in the NBA against players who are usually around 6’6”. That is why ‘Muggsy Bogues” is one of the most popular players in history.

5' 4" Tyrone Bogues was the shortest player to play in the NBA

Career- Bogues was drafted twelfth overall by the Washington Bullets in 1987. Bogues to this day holds the record for the shortest basketball player in NBA history. Muggsy was a teammate to Manute Bol. Manute, 7’ 7”, looked down upon Muggsy Bogues. There was just 28” between the two of them. 28” is almost half the size of Muggsy, 63”. In 1988 the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets entered the NBA, and Bogues was selected by the Hornets in an expansion draft. He then played for 10 years with the Charlotte Hornets. After these ten years of playing for the Charlotte Hornets Bogues was traded to the Golden State Warriors in 1999. He spent to years with the Warriors, and would later rap up his final season with the Raptors in 2001. He then left to the Knicks in 2002, but never played a game. Bogues then left to the Mavericks but never played a single game. Although Bogues never averaged over 11 points a game he was still an inspiration to all who saw him. “Muggsy Bogues” was living proof that anything could happen.
