Theatre

The Lion King on BroadwayThere are many theaters in the world, each built just a little bit differently. Some theaters are made to amplify sound. Others have seats on a slant to ensure that everyone will have a good view. Theater's architecture is a very important aspect of the show. If theaters had a different structure, the effects wouldn’t be the same!

One example of a Broadway theater is the Neil Simon Theater. This theater was built as a musical-comedy house for Alex Aarons and Vinton Freedly. It was used as a CBS radio station in the 1930’s and 1940’s. In 1975, the Shurbert Organization bought the theater, then named “Alvin”. The organization then named it the Neil Simon Theater after playwright Neil Simon. The theater was designated a New York City Landmark in 1985. Today, if you go to this theater, you would be able to see Hairspray!

Musicals are not only shown in New York City. They are all across the world. People in London, England, for example, can see many of the same shows that people in the United States see at the West End. Musicals would not be the same if it weren't for elaborate theaters.

There are many Broadway theaters. All together, there are around 35 different theaters! All are linked together by a street called "Broadway". Below is a list of some of the theaters and their information on Broadway! Click here to get more information on the following sites.
