Elizabeth Blackwell
Elizabeth was born in England. She had an early education that was taught by a tutor. Her father Samuel moved the family in 1832. Elizabeth's father involved as he had been in England, in social reform. Her father's involvement with abolitionists led to friendship with William Lloyd Garrison. Emily Blackwell
opened the women's Medical College at the infirmity. She took
the Chair of Hygiene. This college was operated for 31 years, but
not under Elizabeth Blackwell's guidance.
