For thousands of years people invented things that made their lives easier and simpler. When ancient people first encountered lead, they thought it was the most important metal ever. And why not? With its properties, lead was useful in so many ways. So, people started using it everywhere. Cooking utensils, plumbing,paint... What they did not know is that this useful and amazing metal is also a silent killer. For centuries, people described symptoms of lead - but they did not connect it with the lead. The horrible effect that lead can have on humans is almost unbelievable - some historians even think that lead was responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire! Imagine that - a simple metal can destroy one of the greatest civilizations. We know better now - lead is a killer.
