Physical Barriers
Examine the widest-known aspect of the digital divide: inequitable access to physical Barriers, such as computers and Internet access, and the causes of such discrepancies. Learn about how as we work to resolve this issue, others, unforeseen, spring up and create even more roadblocks.

Digital Barriers

For many individuals, being granted physical access would not solve all their problems. A lack of meaningful, applicable content on the Web and useful software is a growing issue as access to hardware becomes more widespread.

Human Barriers

Particularly in the field of education, it's vital to have teachers and key figures who are capable of operating current technology and competent in its uses. Find out about why this is such a big problem, particularly in lower socioeconomic bracket schools which are largely incapable of attracting better-qualified teachers.

Socioeconomic Barriers

Even if all of the above Barriers were made available, the digital divide could not be bridged without the acknowledgement and support of the general populace. Efforts must be made to make people aware of technology's growing importance and convince them that this is a worthwhile cause. In addition, it's imperative that technology in education be used for constructive, collaborative purposes, not simply a more efficient way of common drill-and-practice teaching methods.
