In South Dakota, you can participate in school sponsored sports once you reach the 7th grade. It’s probably the same in most other states, and it also depends on how big your school is and how much money they have. Our school lets us travel locally. We play approximately ten games and practice every day for two months. Everyone on the team plays. When you go to high school you have to try out. Many high school seasons go three months. They have district, region, and state tournaments to end their seasons. College scholarships are given to the best high school players.
