More History

  • 1929 - The paper currency was reduced in size by about 30 percent to lower the cost of maufacturing. This also made it easier for the general public to distinguish between the real and counterfeit notes.
  • 1957 - Paper currency was first issued with "In God We Trust" as required by Congress in 1955. This is on all currency Series 1963 and beyond.
  • 1990 - A security thread and microprinting is introduced on the $50 and $100 dollar billls. These features help stop counterfeiting by advanced copiers and printers.
