The Four Cs - Cut
Modern diamond cutting techniques were developed during the 1600s. The
familiar "brilliant" cut is made up of 58 facets. When light
enters a diamond, it reflects off the different facets and splits into
the colors of the rainbow. Other common cuts are the marquise, pear, heart,
emerald, and oval. Diamonds must be cut very carefully because a poor
cut will reduce the quality and value.
