African Wyvern (Draco Aficanus)
-2 legs, full wings
The African Wyvern is the biggest dragon, also the only one to have only two legs. Its size is sufficient enough to carry elephants away.
Lair or Nest- A rocky crag, or occasionally a circular nest in an area of sand dunes.
Dimensions (Adult) - 50 feet long; 18 to 20 feet high.
Colouration- Muddy brown, to lime green.
Forms of Attack- Teeth, claws, lashing, dropping from great heights.
Food- Elephants, hippos, rhinos, or other large herbivores.
American Amiphithere (Draco Americanus Tex) & Mexican Amiphithere(Draco Americanus Mex)
-no legs, (Tex) moth like wings, (Mex) feathery wings
The Mexican Amiphithere is a feathered dragon, while its counterpart, the American, is a furry one.
Lair or Nest- Among the reeds on lakesides or offshore islands.
Dimensions (Adult) - 45 feet long; 4 to 5 feet high.
Colouration- Green.
Forms of Attack- Flaming breath, tail lash, constriction.
Food- All of the indigenous animals, typically llamas in the south, and buffalo in the north.
Amphisbanea (biblical)
-no legs, no wings, 2 heads on each end
Double-headed serpent-dragons with heads at each end of its body. Its name means 'goes both ways' in Greek as it could reportedly stick one head inside the mouth of the other, and roll to where it wanted to go.
Asian Lung(Draco Orientalus)
-4 legs, no wings, mane
Lung are most often found near the rivers, streams, and lakes that hide their underwater lairs. Females carry their eggs with them for safety, using their lairs to store the pearls and opals they hoard away. The number of toes varies across the various subspecies.
Lair or Nest- Usually an underwater cave or grotto.
Dimensions (Adult) - 40 feet long; 12 to 15 feet high.
Colouration- Blue, black, white, red, or yellow.
Forms of Attack- Horns, teeth and claws used defensively.
Food- Mainly birds and fish, particularly swan.
Dragonet (Draco Articulous)
-4 legs, full wings
Small dragons that are hostile to humans. A famous one was Wisler, who lived in the mountains of Switzerland.
Lair or Nest-mountains of Switzerland
Dimensions (Adult)- less than 1.5 m high
Colouration-sometimes purple

Drakon (biblical)
-no arms or legs, no wings
The mythical Drakon guards springs and treasures. They have three rows of teeth for eating thieves of their hoard.
Ethiopian Dragon (Draco Athiopicas) & Indian Dragon (Draco Indus)
-2 legs,4 full wings
With a bushy beard and big crest, these dragons have very long tails for attacking their enemy the elephant.
Lair or Nest-lives in depths of the earth
Dimensions (Adult)-as long as 180 ft. long;
Colouration-either golden scales or black
Forms of Attack-ate poisonous plants to make bite and scratched deadlier, kills with strength of tail; wraps itself around the victim and tightens it's coils
Food-elephants, poisonous plants
European Dragon (Draco Occidentalis Magnus)
-4 legs, full wings, dark colour
One of the most known dragons, if not the most, the European dragon continually sheds its skin, leaving its only evidence.
Lair or Nest- A mountain or sea cave, in a remote area.
Dimensions (Adult) - 45 feet long; 13 to 17 feet high.
Colouration- Red, green, black, or occasionally gold.
Forms of Attack- Flame, tails, claws, horns.
Food- Cattle, sheep, humans.
European Worm (Draco Vermis)
-2 arms, no wings
These are found all over Europe, underground, guarding treasures. They are covered with scales and claws, as hard as steel, helping them dig. Some can regenerate.
Lair or Nest-deep in the earth
Dimensions (Adult)-ranging from 6m-120m long
Colouration- usually faded red
Forms of Attack-bites with fangs, scratches with claws, breathes out fire
Food-wild animals sometimes humans
Frost Dragon (Draco Occidentalis Martimus)
-4 legs, full wings, light colour
This dragon migrates from the North Pole to the South to make sure that it spends most of the year in cool dark conditions where it can hunt and live.
Lair or Nest- A sea-facing cave, hollowed out from a glacier or iceberg.
Dimensions (Adult) - 40 feet long; 12 to 15 feet high.
Colouration- Pure white, or white tinged with blue or pink.
Forms of Attack- Fearsome frosty blast, tail, claws, horns.
Food- Giant squid, polar bear, orca, walrus, leopard, seal.
Hydra (biblical)
-4 legs, 6-1000 heads, no wings
The Hydra has 1 golden head, that is immortal and all the rest grow back whenever they are cut off, with two or three new heads replacing it. Famous ones o these include, the Hydra of Lerna, and the Dragon of the Apocalypse.
Ice Drake(Draco Glacies) & Fire Drake (Draco Igniculus)
-4 legs, no wings
These dragons have links to European dragons, though clear evidence has not been shown. Many times European dragons are mistaken for Drakes, because of their non-mature wings. There are many cities named after the Drake: Drakeford, Drakeshill, etc.
Lair or Nest-caves usually guarding treasures
Dimensions (Adult) - about 5-20 m long
Colouration-ice drake: white or light bluish in color; fire drake: usually reddish
Forms of Attack-fire drake: breathes fires at enemies; ice drake
Food-wild animals sometimes humans
Knucker(Draco troglodytes)
-4 legs, vestigial wings
These dragons have only small wings therefore, making them unable to fly. They are found in woody or damp forested areas.
Lair or Nest- A deep pond, well, or 'Knucker' hole.
Dimensions (Adult) - 30 feet long; 3 to 6 feet high.
Colouration- Leathery brown, dull red, greenish blue.
Forms of Attack- Venomous bite, constriction.
Food- Rabbits, deer, farm animals, stray children.
Lindworm (Draco Serpentalis)
-2 legs, no wings
The Lindworm is a fast moving dragon, being unable to fly. It is usually seen hunting camels in the Asian interior.
Lair or Nest- A shallow scratch or nest in the earth, out of the wind.
Dimensions (Adult) - 35 feet long; 8 to 10 feet high.
Colouration- Usually green, pale orange, or sandy yellow.
Forms of Attack- Claws, constriction.
Food- mostly camels
Marsupial Dragon (Draco Marsupialis)
-4 legs, wings, fiery pouch
Found in Australia, and only in Australia, this dragon is able to breathe blue fire, starting bush fires to catch its prey.
Lair or Nest- Rocky caves.
Dimensions (Adult) - 25 feet long; 15 to 18 feet tall.
Colouration- green or blueish.
Forms of Attack- Flaming breath, lashing tail, kicking feet.
Food- Bactrian camels.
Ouroboros (biblical)
-no legs, no wings, tail in its mouth
The serpent biting, devouring, eating its own tail symbolises the cyclic Nature of the Universe: creation out of destruction, Life out of Death. The Ouroboros eats its own tail to sustain its life, in an eternal cycle of renewal.

Piasa (Draco Americanus)
-4 legs, full wings
This dragon has the face of a man, sharp teeth, the beard of a tiger, the antlers of a deer, four bird legs, and a scaly body. The Piasa also has a scorpion-like tail that ends in the fluke of a fish.
Lair or Nest-a huge cave in a cliff
Dimensions (Adult)-at least 30 ft. long; around 12 feet long
Colouration-as red as blood, as black as night, as green as bile
Forms of Attack-attacked with tail and captured using talons
Food-wild animals and humans
Tibetian Dragon (Draco Montana)
-4 legs, no wings
This dragon is thinner and rredder than its counterpart, the Asian Lung. It loves high altitudes, hunting mostly the Himalayan Yeti.
Lair or Nest- On the mountain side in summer, in a cave of snow in winter.
Dimensions (Adult) -40 feet long; 10 to 12 feet high.
Colouration-Almost invariably red.
Forms of Attack- Biting, or else constriction.
Food- Usually the large mountain apes, known as yetis, sometimes yaks.
