Troops Troops in Medieval England went into three classes. These classes were footmen, archers, and knights. They all served a purpose in the army. Footmen were the main bulk of the army. They took a lot of the major hits. They were the frontline, and were the ones that were usually lost their lives. They fought in hand to hand combat. Archers were next. They attacked enemies from afar. They used long bows and cross bows. Archers rarely ever saw any hand to hand combat, and if they did they probably lost. Knights were the final group. Knights were nobleman and usually commanded small militias made up of footmen and archers. Knights also competed in tournaments to gain recognition and dignity. |
