Archers
Archers as the name suggests are men who use bows instead of hand-to-hand weapons. Not many European countries except for a few really used archers as much as the English. The English, or the Welsh, were very famous for a type of bow they invented and perfected, it was called the longbow. Before England had unified, the Welsh were constantly attacking them. Eventually England conquered their neighbor and got a new weapon, the longbow. Since that time English armies were reorganized to 50% longbow men, 25% footmen, and 25% knights. With the longbow men the English were able to conquer more land than ever before and were constantly able to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat with one word. FIRE!
