History

You can trace back the history of England all the way to 400 B.C., from the construction of Stonehenge to World War II, from the Saxon invitation to the Great Queen herself .  England is swarming with history.

England started from groups of hunters exploring the English territory. People brought over Gaelic languages. 843 years later, the Romans invaded England and before you knew it Rome had control over England. The Romans brought paved roads and Christianity. The Romans lost interest and left in 410 A.D. Then in 1066, William of Normandy attacked England. After the battle he built castles, many still exist today.

Many unfortunate events occurred in the 1600's, such as The Hundred Year War and the War of the Roses. There weren't just battles against other countries, plagues were spreading all through England, which caused unrest and revolt.

The mid 17th century brought a civil war between the Parliament (The English government) and the monarchy. Parliament won and turned into a dictatorship. England collected colonies from Americas' coast, along with Canada and Australia. They also took control over the British Isles.

England came into a stalemate with Germany during World War I. This resulted in a  slaughter of many British soldiers. After World War I, England took another hit with World War II. This made England's population extremely low but they bounced back. In the 60's, music was the big thing. Some famous English 60's artist were The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Mary Quant.

Presently, Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of England.  England is a strong nation with many businesses and a large tourist population. They are still one of the European countries with their own money system.  The English pound is worth more than the American dollar.
