Joining a group will help you develope your cooperation skills and fullfill your social responsibility with like-minded people. However, as a young person, you should consider asking for an adult assistance in choosing a group or organization for you to join in. It's an essential thing that you know what you're entering into and who you are working with. Below is a basic guide for choosing a group and some tips on how to background-check before involving yourself. |

Registrations. If it's a big or developed group, check if they are a registered non-profit organization. You can ask your city hall information center for this. If it is a small, starting group like say a Youth Network, Community or School Club and the likes, a registration is not required but endorsements from community officials and proffessionals is a plus! Registration fees for being a member should range from free to very minimal. Group History. Is this group known for their credible and beneficial work for the community? Have they done major events and projects in the past years/months? Or are there allegations that they have used their group's name to ask for personal intentions? Check and double check! Mission and Ethos. It is necessary that you are in a group where a mission is what your interest is like, for example: if you are most concerned about the environment, then choose an environmental group. The group's goal is your goal. Also see to it that you have read their definitions of ethos for members and staffs so you know clearly what are your obligations as a member. Most of the time, you can acquire this information directly from the organization as a pre-canvassing. Suggestions for Starters. It is suggested that as a young student, you have to experience first-hand, a group involvement and volunteer work in a light and not too demanding nature first. Search for your school's and community's key-clubs, in this case you will not experience a large-scale task for your first time. One step at a time!|
