Pythagoras can arguably be the most greatest
mathematician of all time. He was born on the island
of Samos (present-day Greece) in 569 BC. Pythagoras' father's name was
Mnesarchus. Pythagoras' mother's
name was Pythais. Pythagoras was introduced to math's ideas by two other
philosophers, Thales and his
student Anaximander. These two philosophers lived on the island of Miletus.
Pythagoras actually did more than
just discover the Pythagorean Theorem, he also founded a philosophical and
religious school in Crotone, Italy.
Pythagoras liked all of the basic subjects, but he especially liked Music,
Math, and Astronomy. Pythagoras was
such a good musician that he even played lyre to help people that were sick.
Pythagoras did a lot in Math
before figuring out the Pythagorean theorem; He studied many properties of
numbers like even numbers,
and odd numbers. Pythagoras believed that each number had its own personality
either masculine or feminine.
Pythagoras died in Metapontion in the year 475 BC.
