What is Light?

Light is a form of energy that is visible to the human eye .  The nature of light exhibits the behavior of transverse electromagnetic waves as well as of charged particles called photons. Light travels at the speed of 300,000 kilometers per second which to human kind is the fastest traveling energy form in the universe. At this speed it would take light a mere one tenth of a second to circumvent the globe.

There are many sources of light energy--> ex. The sun produces solar energy which is used in solar panels to generate electricity. The light from the sun is also used in the process of photosynthesis by plants. Light is produced by one of the two methods called "Incandescence" and " Luminescence."

Light has it's intensity that corresponds to the power density of a light wave. Light also has color that corresponds to different frequencies of light waves. An example of this would be a red colored light would have a different frequency from green colored light.

Let's find out what properties of light prove its behavior as an electromagnetic wave and as a particle (Photons)!

Incandescence is the emission of light from hot matter. Luminescence is the emission of light when the excited electrons fall to the lower energy levels.
