Government
After the tsunami disaster occurred, many governments have taken
action to help. President George W. Bush has pledged $350 million
to help the victims of the tsunami. The government of the UK plans
to take a broad approach to increase aid and eliminate dept. The
British government donated $50 million on December 31st, 2004 .
The British government will relinquish probate fees for families
of tsunami victims and help cut through legal red tape so financial
affairs are settled quickly. Families of people missing as a result
of the disaster should be able to obtain probate shortly if they
are able to show evidence that the person was in the region at the
time. The Sri Lankan government, under its new action plan, has
decided to pay an allowance of Rs. 5000 per tsunami-affected family
every month, with electricity, telephone and water bills also to
be written off. Partly damaged houses will be rebuilt with government
aid if located in safe areas. The plan also includes free books,
uniform material and shoes for school children, creation of 15 new
townships along the south and east coasts, and BOI concessions for
completely destroyed hotels. Thus, the governments of the world
are all helping the unfortunate victims of the tsunami.
