When the tsunami hit South East Asia on Dec 26th, 2004, the headlines constantly talked about the impact of the earthquake and the tsunami on the earth’s surface. It was one of the four largest earthquakes that have been recorded in the past 100 years. Scientists at NASA calculated that this earthquake changed the shape of our planet, shifted the North Pole by a few centimeters, and also shaved off a few microseconds from each day. We asked a lot of questions and learned a lot in the process. For example, we learned about the mega-tsunamis and the great damage they can cause, particularly the Cumbre Vieja on La Palma.

We created this website to teach children 14 and under about tsunamis, how to watch for warning signs, and how to protect themselves if they are ever in an earthquake-prone area. In this website, you can learn about the dynamics of a tsunami, the impact of a tsunami, prediction and safety measures, and also try several fun activities to learn about the deadly waves.

Please have a look around and learn about how you can prepare yourself in the event a tsunami strikes again in the near future.
