DURING A TORNADO WARNING
- Take cover immediately
where you are.
- If you are
in a home or a building, move to a shelter. If a basement is
not available, move to a small interior room or hallway on the
lowest floor and get under sturdy furniture. Stay away from the windows
and
corners. Use your arms to protect your head and neck.
- If you are
outside during a tornado, do not get under a bridge. Get out
of your vehicles and seek for a shelter in a
nearby building immediately.
If a building is not available, try to get to a low and flat
location, and lie down. Protect your head and neck with
your arms. Be aware
of flying debris.
- If a tornado
looks as if it’s standing still and getting
bigger, it is headed right at you.
Do not try
to overturn and run away from the tornado in your vehicle. Tornadoes
can change direction quickly
and can lift up and
toss you car in the air.
DURING A TORNADO WATCH
- Be alert
and stay informed. Tornadoes can develop.
- Be prepared
to take cover immediately.
- You may travel
to somewhere else safer. Remember, if you intend to travel away,
you do it before the tornado arrives. DO
NOT TRAVEL WHEN A TORNADO IS HAPPENING.
