There are many changes that suprised me about football. Did you know that football evolved from soccer and they didn't have pads until the 1940's? The helmet has changed the most. It really helps protect the players. Their uniforms changed more than I expected!

1925

In 1925 they had no face guard at all and no shoulder pad (that must have hurt). They didn't have numbers . They didn't have gloves, just bare hands! No cleats, but tennis shoes that were slick, and no chest pad for their lungs! Think about having your chest pounded with no pad; that's the worst game ever!

In 1942 they finally get shoulder pads for ramming people and chest pads to keep their lungs safe. They get numbers now so you don't have to know their name, hard knee pads for no broken knee caps, but still no gloves or cleats--that's really tough!

1965

In 1965 the face guard is finally here, along with a symbol on the jersey, and a short sleeve jersey so they can cool down easier. It's is a good thing.

In 1985 they get gloves now for good gripping on the ball, a mouth piece for no chips on the teeth. Arm pads can be useful and multicolor jerseys for fun-- that's a good game!

2002

In 2002 they had short jerseys to cool the players off, .short socks, cleats , no nose part of the face guard to improve vision-- the best so far.
