Jesse James's first unlawful activities happened when he joined Quantrill's Raiders, a group of Confederate renegades, when he was sixteen years old. They conducted raids in Missouri and Kentucky. Later, he robbed banks and trains in Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, and Tennesee.
