Three
Dollar Gold Coin
The Three Dollar Coin was first issued in 1854 when the United
States began selling postage stamps for 3 cents each. Officials
thought it would be easier for people to buy 100 stamps if they
had a single coin worth three dollars. People didn’t use
this coin, and the government stopped producing it in 1889.
