Half Cent
If you earned only $1.00 per day, as many people did during
the early history of the U.S., you would have been glad there
was such a thing as a half cent. You couldn’t buy much
for half a cent today, but half cents were minted until 1857,
so it is possible they might have been in the money bags of
some of our outlaws. The “Braided Hair Half Cent”
pictured here was minted between 1840 and 1857. |
