After the emergency relief phase, when the lives of the survivors were no longer in peril, relief efforts then focused on rehabilitaion, the stabilisation and restoration of affected areas.
Survivors had to cope with the mental trauma of the nigthmare, in addition to the lost of property and family. Thus, measures were taken to help them carry on with their lives, to start afresh, and ultimately, to recover from this disaster.
