Cell Wall

The cell wall is the outer covering of a plant cell and is very stiff.  It protects and supports the cell, but it allows water to pass through to the cell.  It also helps keep the shape of the cell.  If the cell wall was not there the stem of the plant might be as floppy as jello.
The cell wall is like the walls of a school or the walls of a classroom.  It keeps all the classes together so they aren't mixed around.  Imagine if the whole school was one room.  How could the teachers keep any organization?
