Languages
The ultimate origin of any language is uncertain and is likely to never be known
but there are many theories as to what the origin of languages is. It is unknown
whether language were started with one original language, or developed from
three or four different languages at different times. Language is needed as a
way of warning other people about dangers. It is thought that languages were
originally created during hunting, for warning if there was a danger. Theories
suggest that women developed these languages further. This is because the women
had to stay at home whilst the men were out and talking was a way of socialising
and filling up time.
Spoken languages are hard to trace as spoken languages leave no traces for
historic record. There are only theories which can explain the origins and
development of languages. However we are able to trace the english language back
to a language called Indo European which is thought to have originated around
8-10000 years ago. This developed through time into the language we know today
as english.
As languages develop, new words are created and other are forgotten and not
used. This is part of the reason why languages are hard to be traced. From one
language, many different languages can be developed. It is unknown how many
languages there are in the world but there are estimated 4000-6000 languages.
This is an awful lot of languages for approximately the 260 countries which make
up our world.
