Johann Strauss Jr.
On October 25, 1825, Johann Strauss Jr. was born in Vienna, Austria, to Johann Strauss Sr. and Anna. Strauss was the first of five children. Strauss's father did not want him to have a musical career like him. He wanted Strauss to be a banker. Strauss did not listen and he studied music secretly.
When Strauss was almost 20, he formed an orchestra and showed his talents. He soon became a rival of his dad. Everyone liked Strauss's music.
On August 27, 1862, Strauss married Henrietta "Jetty" Treffz. Henrietta "Jetty" Treffz was his first of three wives.
Strauss died of pneumonia in Vienna, Austria, on June 3, 1899, at age 73. He was buried in Central Cemetery in Vienna, Austria.
Strauss is known as "The Waltz King." He is famous for his many waltzes, the most famous being The Blue Danube waltz.
