1. Melanoma
2. Non-Melanoma-
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Melanoma is the type of skin cancer that affects the cell that colors our skin. It is more frequent in white people then in blacks, and will be more frequently seen in adults. Symptoms may include a darker skin tone or color change, itching, and possibly bleeding. Melanoma is almost 100% curable.
*Almost half of all Melanomas are thought to be in a non-cancerous pigmented nevus mole.*

Nonmelanoma skin cancer is the most common type of skin cancer. This type of cancer includes all skin cancers except benign and malignant melanoma. The two main types of Nonmelanoma skin cancer are Basal Cell arcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
Basal Cell Carcinoma– This form of Nonmelanoma skin cancer effects the lowest layer of skin called the basal cell layer. Because Basal Cell Carcinoma is usually effects sun exposed areas such as your head and neck, it is no surprise that almost 75% of all Nonmelanoma skin cancer diagnoses are Basal Cell CarcinomaC. Although Basal Cell Carcinoma is slow growing, if it is not treated, it will grow into nearby areas and invade the bone or other tissues beneath the skin.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma– Squamous Cell is the second most common skin cancer that affects 200,000 Americans a year. Squamous Cell usually does not spread, but if it does, it can be fatal. Squamous Cell that spreads will usually arise on areas of skin that have chronic inflammatory, the cell membrane, or the lips. Chronic sunlight exposure is what normally causes this form of skin cancer, and that is why most of the time tumors will appear on sun-exposed area (face, bald scalp, neck, hands, shoulders, etc.). Squamous cell can also be caused by certain types of injuries such as scars, long-standing sores, burns, exposure to X-rays or certain chemicals. Although these are the main places and causes of Squamous cell, sometimes it spontaneously arises on healthy skin.
*Because they are both rooted off from Nonmelanoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Basal Cell Carcinoma have very similar effects.
