The British occupation saw little done to improve the being of the people. British colonial policy after all, was much for its own interests. Although the British were not as harsh rulers as those that preceded them, they were not good and concerned rulers either. While stability was brought to Egypt and the political upheavals and chaos ended, much of the Egyptian poor remained as they were. The occupiers never bothered either to educate or improve their lot. Public works built for the people were little, while only those that benefited economic life and had useful purposes, such as trams and trains were built. Otherwise, the British had done little more for the people. No wells were drilled for the people, neither were medical facilities provided.
