COMMUNICATION IS THE WAY TO SURVIVE
Communication-Communication is the way for animals to survive. They can communicate through hearing, seeing, tasting, or touching. Animals communicate to scare predators, attract mates, mark their territory, or identify themselves to other animals.
Visual Communication-There are two different types of ways animals communicate visually. They are called badges and displays. Badges are the shape and color of animals. Displays are behavioral adaptations.
Tactile communication-If you are touched or given a paw by your pet( cat, dog) they are communicating with you. Touch is used in many different ways by animals.
Chemical Communication-Have you ever smelled a skunk? Well, thatís chemical communication. Have you ever seen a cat rub its mouth against something? Well, thatís chemical communication also.
Auditory Communication-Different sounds animals make is another way for them to communicate. From the lions roar to the whaleís song is just this: All the sounds animals hear, see, and taste is just their way to talk to one another.
Why Animals Communicate
Animals communicate for their safety, food, shelter, and much, much more.
They need to communicate for safety, for when predators approach, the animals need to run or hide. For example, when lionesses quietly approach deer and one hears her, the deer communicates to the other deer by running.
They communicate when they are looking for food, because the animals have to signal when to attack. Like when a group of animals have to work together to get food, they have to communicate when to attack or give-up.
They also need to communicate for shelter, because when an animal of the pack wants to tell the rest of the pack that he/she has found shelter they have to communicate by sounds, calls, and other ways of communicating.
These are some reasons why animals communicate.
