Irish Legend
The ancient Irish King Lir had four children, Fionnuala, Aedh, Fiachra and Conn. Aoife, Lir's second wife, turned the four into swans and banished them to spend 300 years in the Lake Derravaragh, 300 years on Inis Glora, and 300 years on the Sea of Moyle. She left them with their human voices, and people loved to hear the singing of the swans.
