Welcome to the Vesuvius-Quest Webquest.  This Webquest was created for students in grades 5th-8th.  We are 6th grade American students who attend Naples American Elementary School in Naples, Italy, and we live in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius every day.  Vesuvius has been sleeping since 1950, and Volcanologists tell us that Vesuvius could erupt at any time.  We have designed this Webquest to aquaint you with the history and present day science related to Mount Vesuvius.  In addition, you will learn about other volcanoes, vulcanology, seismology, plate tectonics, geology, and other related topics as you search through the Internet links.

Where is Mount Vesuvius?

How many times has it erupted from recorded history?

Who are the people that live next to the volcano?

Where is the city of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and what happened to them in 79 AD?

Why is Mount Vesuvius one of the most dangerous volcanoes on Earth?

What would happen to the city of Naples, Italy if Vesuvius should erupt?

Think about these questions and discuss your views together before you begin this WebQuest.
