Steroids – Canseco’s Book “Juiced” |
|
Just recently Jose Canseco released a book titled “Juiced”. The book discussed the fun, wild, and hard times that Canseco had while in the MLB. But the topic most people were stuck on was the steroid topic he discussed. In the book, Canseco names former teammates who he says have used steroids. He mentioned: Juan Gonzalez, Ivan Rodriguez, Mark McGuire, Jason Giambi, and Rafael Palmeiro. He also mentions superstars Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. He says “There is no doubt in his mind that they are taking steroids”. Jason Giambi, who was out for most of the 2004 season with a benign tumor in his pituitary gland, was criticized by the press that his illness was steroid related. Giambi testified under the grand jury that he injected himself with hGH in 2003. He admitted to using steroids for at least 3 seasons. Barry Bonds also testified to a grand jury that he used a clear substance and a cream given to him by his trainer, but he had no idea that they were steroids. These substances were similar to ones known as “the clear” and “the cream”, 2 types of steroids from the BALCO lab. According to the last 2 paragraphs Canseco’s allegations were correct. Which makes it sad and disgraceful of how many baseball players are using steroids. It is not right that they can hold records after they have illegally enhanced their performance with steroids. It a terrible situation because these players are supposed to be role models for kids and we do not want kids to think it is okay to take steroids because pro athletes do. |
