P.S. 175 jumped at the opportunity to donate to Toys For Tots because of the wonderful work that they do. We think the idea of giving toys to children who can't afford them is perfect! We don't want any child to feel left out during the holidays. Besides, who doesn't love toys? |
Toys for Tots MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Want to find out how we donated to the U.S. MARINE CORPS RESERVE TOYS FOR TOTS organization?
|
Follow these simple steps: |
|
To Start:
First, make sure that the principal is fine with your school having this type of donation.
Second, if the principal of your school agrees, the next thing you do is set up boxes in the main hall entrance of your school (or wherever the principal allows)
Make sure the boxes are decorated so that they catch everyone's eye.
We made ours red with pictures of toys on them.
Set up a date of when Toys for Tots starts and ends within the months of October-November.
Make up notices that the teachers can send home with the students so that parents are made aware of the charity.
Hang up posters around the school, outside of school, and around the neighborhood telling everyone about Toys For Tots! These can be hand made fliers or fliers given by the charity. (We had both.)
The waiting game:
After you do all that, people should start bringing in the toys.
If the giving of toys is a little slow, keep sending home fliers reminding students and parents about Toys for Tots.
Teachers should encourage the children to bring in toys to donate by placing a daily reminder in their homework.
The End:
When the end date arrives a Toys for Tots marine will come to collect the toys you have collected.
They are really nice!
On the last day, any person who donated toys should be proud they made a difference.
