The Apollo rockets were the rockets used during the United States' journeys to the moon. There were a total of 11 Apollo crafts but only six were used to land men on the moon. Apollos 7 and 9 were Earth orbiting missions to test the Command and Lunar Modules, and did not return lunar data. Apollos 8 and 10 tested various components while orbiting the Moon, and returned photography of the lunar surface. The infamous Apollo 13 malfunctioned and had to completely orbit the moon before returning to Earth. The rest however, Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17, were successful at landing men on the moon. The most famous engine in these rockects was the Saturn V (read more about it in the Saturn V section). However the Apollos could not land on the moon because they were so big so they had Lunar Modules that detached and carried the men to the moon's surface. During the last three missions a Lunar Rover ws carried along in the Lunar Module so the astronauts could drive over the moon's surface and explore. Below is a table of when the Apollo's were launched from http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/lunar/apollo.html:
