The Flowerhorn fish is a very aggressive creature. It is almost impossible to keep two Flowerhorns of the same sex in the same tank without one ending up dead or severely injured by the other.
In fact, they are usually kept alone until breeding season. It is also a very playful and active fish. Although its aggressive nature may make it seem like a hostile creature, they are also able to forge strong bonds with their owners, making it a good ornamental fish as well as a pet.
Some Flowerhorn breeders feed their fish using their own palms. This allows the Flowerhorn to get used and accustomed to the owner, and become very tamed. During the period of the Flowerhorn craze, there were many television programs showing Flowerhorns and their owners, some owners have forged such strong bonds with their fishes that their fish can actually move towards their fingers when the owners place their fingers beside the fish's tank. Some of them can even be taken out of the water without hurting their owners!
