Ford 3-Ton M1918
One of the first light tank designs by the U.S. was
the M1918. Small and cramped, it carried a crew of two (driver and gunner),
was armed with a .30 caliber Browning machine-gun and could reach a top speed
of 8mph. Initial production was fifteen vehicles and one was sent to France
for testing. The U.S. Tank Corps felt it did not meet their requirements
and continued using the French Renault FT-17. Although a contract for 15,000
vehicles was awarded, the Armistice ended production, leaving only the original
fifteen vehicles built
